At midnight, October 1st, the Federal Government shut down due to not agreeing on the federal budget for fiscal year 2026. Here are some essential things you should know:
The Tribe’s services and business remain open! There will be no staff layoffs or delayed services.
While the Tribe receives many federal grants for services to fulfill treaty obligations and trust responsibilities to us, our financial position is prepared to fill the gap during this time. This is self-reliance in action!
You will hear of some federal staff layoffs and federal service pauses in the news. This is unfortunate, and we hope this shutdown ends quickly so federal staff can return to their livelihoods.
It is hard to predict how long a federal government shutdown will go. We hope our Congressional partners can come together quickly for the sake of the American people.
As we learn more information, we will reach out again.
